In June 2017, ASTM International’s committee on Manufactured Masonry Units (C15) presented its top annual award — the Award of Merit — to A. Rhett Whitlock, president of WDP & Associates Consulting Engineers, Inc. in Murrells Inlet, S.C. The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for individual contributions to developing standards.

The committee honored Whitlock for his dedication to preparing standards related to the manufacturing of masonry units. He has been a member of ASTM since 1985, having previously won the Alan H. Yorkdale Memorial Award (1997).

Whitlock is a member of ASTM, The Masonry Society (serving as an author on the Masonry Designer’s Guide), the International Masonry Society, National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the Construction Specifications Institute. He received his Ph.D. in civil engineering from Clemson University.
